The Jane Show: A Museum of One's Own In the end, the creative act is not performed by the artist at all: the spectator brings art to life and thus fulfills the work on the spot. THE JANE SHOW brings together art and spectator as one - by the simple act of documenting a single museum visitor.
"We were deciding the next exhibition," said Cesar Marzetti, curator at the MONA, "and all agreed on the idea of taking SHOOT! to a different level." SHOOT! was an exhibit the Museum of New Art (MONA) installed a few years ago where every person that entered the museum had their photograph taken and printed, and then those portraits became the show. "This time we decided to only photograph one museum visitor, over the course of a visit," Marzetti explained. "But which visitor? We decided, actually I think it was Jef's (Bourgeau) suggestion, that we simply shoot whoever wanders into the museum next. It has been a slow summer, needless to say. It took several days, but then wham! -- A visitor named Jane and at last we had the Jane Show: A Museum of One's Own, our first exhibition for the new season." September 18th at the Museum of New Art, from 3 to 6pm.
