DETROIT NOW was first conceived in February 2002 by the Museum of New Art to draw attention to Detroit art "now"; that is to say, contemporary artists producing extraordinary work that have had, up to now, partial exposure. The museum also conceived Detroit Now as a pilot project to help several area art organizations work together to facilitate greater awareness about contemporary art, hoping to engender a frank dialogue about the significance and importance of contemporary art in Detroit.

It is part of human nature to seek escape -- to break free from the limitations that space, time and the mind itself so often place in our way. Thirteen artists at the Museum of New Art have taken the thematic premise of emotional transcendence and created a unique exhibit entitled DETROIT NOW: Meditations on Movement.

Following the museum's earlier show that ran in 2003, the current one is a collective study of an imagined passage through invisible barriers. Lisa Dillin, Amanda Thatcher, Anthony Frazzini, and ten other artists- utilize the tools of various mediums to take a long trip down the road. Fellow travelers always welcome. The trip started July 15 and "ends" August 13.
