Jef Bourgeau at The Gahlberg/Art Center Gallery

The Gahlberg/Arts Center Gallery will host a comprehensive exhibition of painting and sculpture by Jef Bourgeau from September 16 through October 15, 1994.

As Kathryn Hixson writes in the exhibitions catalogue essay, “In his sculptural accumulations, Bourgeau juxtaposes compelling objects in simple but jarring ways … Hatrack is the lower half of a child’s mannequin, it’s underwear gathered around its knees…This potent, yet totally ambiguous composition operates like a filmic montage: disparate images are collaged in sequence to create a resonating unfixable meaning.”

The reception for the artists is on October 1, 1994.
