Teutonic Town Meets Motown
By Robert del Valle

The Museum of New Art has now commenced the latest installment of its ongoing Changing Cities series and this time the spotlight is on Berlin. The German capital has been synonymous with a creative ethos for centuries and the explosions heard and seen in recent years are quite extraordinary.

In keeping with the agreement (we send them our art, they send us theirs), the Galerie Eva Bracke has shipped over a collective exhibit featuring works by Olivia Berckemeyer, Christoph Dettmeier, Andrew Gilbert, Franziska Hufnagel, Florin Kompatscher, Alexej Koschkarow, Joe Neave, Max Schulze and Astrid Sourkova.

The Detroit artists who will be returning the favor shortly (and whose works will be displayed at MONA as well) include Dietmar Krumrey, Rachel Hunt, Cyrus Karimipour, Alison Wong, Hartmut Austen, Stig Eklund, Mary Fortuna, Marla Karimipour, Kelly Frank, Jacque Liu, Vagner Whitehead and Kyohei Abe.

Kudos to Jef Bourgeau and Eva Bracke for initiating and making successful this rewarding foreign exchange program.

The exhibit exists through August 9.
